John F. “Sandy” Smith is a Senior Partner in Womble Carlyle’s Atlanta office, where he leads teams of attorneys to help business clients reach their goals. His national practice includes negotiating and completing mergers and acquisitions, as well as serving as a trusted advisor to Fortune 500 companies, middle-market growth companies, and equity funds and their portfolio companies.

The Atlanta office is one of 14 of the firm’s offices in the United States. The first office opened in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1876; it now has almost 600 lawyers. The most recent one opened in Silicon Valley in late 2011. Smith says the California office provides the firm with access to the world’s most dynamic capital and technology markets, and business that drives the U.S. economy with the ability to leverage Womble’s historical Southeast footprint.
